OUR HISTORTY

MCAJ A.C. (JUNTOS!) is a non-profit organization that provides educational opportunities in technology to communities with limited resources in the municipalities of Jiutepec, Temixco, Emiliano Zapata, and Cuernavaca, in the state of Morelos, Mexico.

These communities, which are home to nearly one million inhabitants, face rapid growth and a severe lack of educational services, especially in the area of basic computing. This situation prevents their residents from accessing formal employment or improving their quality of life, despite being close to important work centers.

The beginning

It all started in 1998, when William Graham and Claudia Bierman, after their retirement, decided to spend part of the year in Cuernavaca. While living among people with limited resources, they identified an urgent need: the lack of technological knowledge that limited the community's opportunities.

Inspired by their humanitarian calling, they gathered friends committed to social change, visited different neighborhoods, and confirmed the thirst for learning in technology.

In 2001, MCAJ A.C. (JUNTOS!) was born with the objective of offering free computer courses, including: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Publisher; Movie Maker and Photoshop; website management; school and community projects; oral and written communication; skills for academic and professional life. To reach the community, they implemented a Mobile Computer Lab, bringing education to accessible locations in a practical, fun, and effective way.

In 2006, a flexible and meaningful teaching model was formalized, allowing each student to:

  • Advance at their own pace

  • Become familiar with digital tools

  • Apply what they've learned in real life

  • Increase their employment opportunities

This has transformed the way children, youth, and adults see their future, giving them real tools to achieve change.

Together we learn, together we grow!

What are we currently doing?

Education without barriers.

All of our spaces are inclusive and neutral, regardless of religion or political ideology. The only requirement is the desire to improve oneself.

Continuous expansion.

Currently, MCAJ works directly with: 3 children's homes and 9 municipal assistantships.

We have also been contacted by more than 30 municipal assistants interested in bringing the program to their communities.

Supporting young people.

Since 2019, MCAJ has expanded its support to young adults who grew up in children's homes. Many of them, upon turning 18, were left in a vulnerable situation.
